Tips for Creating Your Music Request List

These guidelines are here to help—not to box you in. Nothing has to be set in stone. You always have the final say, and we’ll remain flexible and open-minded every step of the way. Just keep in mind: reading the room and programming music based on your wishes, your guests, and the vibe of the event is what we do best.

Think Beyond Your Favorites

When building your request list, consider not only the songs you love, but music your guests will enjoy too. Don’t worry if you’re unsure what works for all ages—that’s why you hired a professional DJ who knows how to read the crowd and play the right song at the right time.

How Much Music Fits?

In any given hour, a DJ can typically play 15–16 songs if music runs continuously. Over a 4–5 hour event, that averages 60–75 songs, though pauses for speeches, activities, and special moments may reduce that number slightly.

Leave Room for the DJ to Work the Crowd

You don’t need to select every song. When a DJ is locked into a strict list, they’re working the list—not the crowd. Allowing flexibility lets us adapt in real time and create a fun, energetic atmosphere that feels natural and effortless.

Familiar Music Wins

While adding personal touches is encouraged, be mindful of including too many obscure or highly eclectic tracks. Guests respond best to music they recognize and enjoy.

Cocktail Hour = Atmosphere

Cocktail hour music should enhance conversation, not dominate it. This is the perfect time for relaxed, atmospheric selections. We’re happy to suggest styles that pair well with your event and setting.

Dinner Music Sets the Tone

Dinner music should generally stay mildly upbeat to maintain energy in the room. Softer or classical music works beautifully in some settings, but most events benefit from a subtle lift in tempo. Trust your DJ to find the right balance.

Building the Dance Floor

When dancing begins, we typically start with classic crowd favorites that appeal across generations. As the night progresses, the music evolves—how quickly and where it goes depends entirely on the crowd’s response.

Our Music Library

We partner with industry-leading, licensed music providers and update our library weekly—often before songs hit mainstream awareness. If you want it, chances are we already have it.

Our online music database features proven crowd favorites and top requests, but it’s not a limitation. The world is our library. If there’s a song you want that we don’t already have, we’ll get it.

If a song isn’t readily available and you already own it, feel free to email it or provide a CD/flash drive—we’re happy to accommodate.

Organizing Your Requests

Please categorize your selections as:

  • Must Play

  • Play If Possible

  • Do Not Play

You can also add notes, instructions, or dedications to individual songs.

Song Previews & Special Versions

Our database allows you to preview songs via major music retailers. Some searches may require manual entry. You’ll also find exclusive remixes and special edits unique to us.

Guest Requests (Optional & Fun!)

You’ve been given a Guest Request password, which you can share with guests if you’d like. Many couples enjoy seeing what their guests suggest—but you’re always in control. Any song you don’t want played can simply disappear.

Guest access is restricted to music requests only—they will never see your personal information or planning details.

Requests During the Event

Live requests are usually welcomed, though not guaranteed. Your DJ will use professional judgment to ensure requests align with your preferences, event flow, and overall vibe.
